Another HDR

Here's another HDR that I did yesterday. Refer to the previous post for an explanation =P The top image is without HDR and the bottom, of course, is with.

HDR is great with Urban scenes! It's also great with catholic churches. My landlord is a devout catholic and she's going to take me around to some local churches to take pictures. Here are some examples of what others have done in churches using HDR: http://hdr-churches.deviantart.com/gallery/27728466

The cool thing to do.

So it's all the rage at school, people are taking the step to HDR (high dynamic range) processing.

Here's an explanation to the non-photographers and the confused photographers: Long story short, a camera isn't able to capture an image quite as well as our eyes are able to. One area of the scene may be too dark, while another to bright, and only the subject is at a proper exposure. When shooting for HDR, a photographer will take three or more exposures, one over, one under, and one just right and then on the computer combine all three. In theory, you will see a proper exposure for every part of the image.

If you understood none of the above, don't worry about it. Unless your a photographer, consider finding a different career.

I'm actually really excited about it because for the first time I actually want to go outside and take pictures. I've always said I like to take pictures where I have the most control of the situation, which ruled the outdoors out because until now, I had no control of the light. Now I have a little control.

http://www.hdrsoft.com/gallery/gallery.php?id=47&gid=0 <--- this is a website gallery that shows the really neat pictures you can make using HDR. I've been stuck in my house all day so I haven't been able to really make any super fantastic images like these, just sights from around my apartment.

Hopefully soon I'll go somewhere epic, like the grand canyon or New York City or a national park somewhere, where I can really put these new skills to use.

Here's the images I've been experimenting with. I've kindly included the original pictures that were combined.

Vintage Ad

Here a project I did that reminds us of our past. It makes me laugh because I don't remember this era in history but it just this ad that I've copied just seems absurd to me. Looking at this gives me hope for the things we're fighting for now. When woman were fighting for their rights, I'm positive people looked at their cause and were less than hopeful that they would accomplish anything. Now my generation is hardly aware that we were ever like this.

Here's the ad. It's for a typewriter marketed to secretaries claiming it wouldn't chip their nails. See if you can spot all the instances of sexism! The first ad is the original, the second is my recreation.
