A new series?

I usually stray from the fine art side of photography, meaning I'm never seeking inspiration, but inspiration recently came to me.

This all came from my portraiture assignment to recreate a painting then I began interpreting the emotion behind the painting.

Here's my most recent interpretation. I would like work more with this idea and make a series of it. I have more about it on my website, click here.

New advertising shots

Here are some new layouts that I recently made for my advertising class.

Speaking of advertising, I have news! I decided to focus on advertising for my portfolio. Until this point I was focused on food but obviously I can still incorporate food into advertising but I won't be limited to that.

Football pictures- so excited!

So here's something that I'm exceptionally proud of and I'm really giddy to share! I made some composites with a Gatorade ad in mind. This was a little stressful and time consuming in post-editing but I've got it pretty much figured out. This is an area that I would like to visit for a while, the results have been very rewarding to me!

Interpretation

For my Portraiture II class I've been working on interpreting a painting, the John Keats painting I posted before.

This is my third of five interpretations. At this point I'd rather not discuss the meaning behind this picture as it has very personal meaning to me and unfortunately it's very sensitive to me and others.

I most likely will continue developing this concept in the future.

Red Robin Ad/Burger Shoot

This week in our advertising class, we have a food shoot due, which makes me happy! I love shooting food! I shot mini sliders and decided to make a Red Robin ad out of it. Enjoy!

Night for day

Here's a super non-interesting image I made for my editorial class. The assignment was to, by utilizing flash, take a picture in broad daylight but make it appear as if it was taken at night time. The second image is what the scene actually looked like.

Finally

So it has been around four 3-4 months since I made a post up until today! I've been busy! In addition to working and some photo gigs I'm picking up, I'm taking six classes. I just went nuts and literally posted about a month and a half of work that I've been doing. They aren't in any particular order, I just posted what was convenient at the time. From here on out I'll try and be more consistent... We'll see.

I also have been working on my website, making it more user-friendly and professional. Check it out at dustinyonish.com and then send it to a friend you know of who needs a photographer. That would be awesomeness.

Thanks for checking out my stuff, come back again next week to see more. Hopefully!

Editorial Self Portrait

Our first editorial was to make a self portrait that utilized props. I his behind a lot of snicker doodle cookies!

Pancakes!

Here's my first project for my portfolio exploration class. I shot pancakes! Yum!

Portraiture Interpretation

In portraiture, we're copying a painting and turning in 5 interpretation. This is number two of five. The next one won't look like the original but it will be an interpretation of the story behind the image of John Keats. Stay tuned.

Cosmetics Shoot

We were to make a cosmetics ad for my advertising class but I, unfortunately, hated my layout. I do however feel proud of my product shot, so I'll share.

Starbucks Ad

This is my first ad for advertising. I decided to take a very simple approach in promoting the new Starbucks blonde roast.

Miscellaneous Editorial Images

Here are three assignments for editorial photography.

This was a shoot that was be on location using fill flash.

For this shoot, we were all instructed to show up at class all dressed up so we could take more "fancy" editorial portraits. Vicki doesn't get too dressy...

This was our second class day. It was a high key demonstration so it was pretty much whatever goes. I got a lot of great images that I really couldn't edit out!

Making my food shots more interesting.... Blah.

My instructors are always telling me that I need to take my food pictures to the next level....... So I decided to make some splashes. They were quite a pain! The iced tea picture was actually the most difficult, I broke two classes in the process and made a HUGE mess.....

I feel like I got more of an experience than quantity or quality. It wasn't a complete waste of time!

Glamor Lighting

I learned a new lighting technique that really makes for a flattering picture. Here are two examples. The set up really makes the eyes pop! Just don't look too long or it will creep you out.

Human Element for Advertising

The point of this assignment was to make an advertisement that would utilize a human element. My favorite coffee is from Nicholas here in Pittsburgh  so I decided to make an ad for them. I also included two other pictures I thought were nice that I made during the shoot.

Jewelry for Advertising

For my advertising class this week, we were to shoot jewelry and make a spread for the ad. I decided to make an accessory ad for Urban Outfitters.
