Indian food, tacos, and puddin'

First of all, on Easter, Tim and I called about every restaurant in Pittsburgh trying to figure out where we were going to eat. We finally found an Indian buffet called  India Garden in Oakland that was open. We ate goat for the first time! The food was spicy but all had a very unique flavor.

Also for my color management class, I took my weekly commercial style food photographs. I made some  homemade tortillas and made some turkey tacos, which were yummy and for desert I made some french vanilla pudding with cinnamon- delicious!

I was mostly in a strawberry mood- apparently.

Here are my most recent food pictures- my aim is to make you hungry! And everything that I took pictures of was absolutely amazing! Enjoy!

I also began going out and taking pictures at the restaurants. This week, Tim and I went to Abay, an Ethiopian restaurant in Shadyside. It was definitely a different experience and hard to explain. Basically you tear off a piece of flatbread and pick up the meat. We ordered shrimp, lamb, beef, and chicken based entrees and Tim also ordered a pumpkin soup (it was interesting). They also have a wide variety of vegan dishes. Try this restaurant once, it's a bit pricey but great tasting!

Environmental Pictures

In my digital image illustration class (aka photoshop), our final project goes along with our image bank weekly shoots. We will be creating a composite for a fictitious environmental client demonstrating the importance of protecting the environment (from what I understand). The pictures, therefore, are not my style. I'm more optimistic when I take pictures but for this assignment I have to show the hard truth of the state of our environment, which makes me sick to my stomach. Here's some of the pictures I've gotten so far. I'm just hoping that I'm on the right track with these pictures haha. On a happy note, my new camera that I ordered (the Canon 5d, the older model unfortunately but is most importantly full frame) arrives via UPS tomorrow!!! =)

Ooops!

So I had an assignment and I understood it to be about nature and modern structure co-existing but..... that wasn't the assignment at all. So here's the one picture that I got for it, I liked it enough to post it even though I won't be able to use it! Blah. My plan was to make the flower as tall as the building as sort of a symbol of the buildings and the flower being equally important.

FOOD!!!

For my color management class I've decided to shoot commercial food photography. This is something that I'm considering for a career and for my final portfolio; let me tell you, it's a very difficult field! I haven't begun but I will also be taking my camera to restaurants and will start being sorta of a food critic, which I'm really excited about  because I love eating out. Here are the pictures that I have come up with for my first week of class, hopefully they make you hungry!

Fire; Destruction

These pictures aren't for any assignment and really aren't really that great because it was extremely low light and I hadn't brought my tripod. My buddy Joe Brown needed some pictures of abandoned structures for an assignment so him and I headed to McKeesport because that town is just abundant in abandoned homes. This home was nearly burnt to the ground; it was very sad. Interestingly, Duane Michals, a famous photographer who if who remember has served as some inspiration to me, grew up in McKeesport and for one of his projects he visited his childhood home, which is now abandoned, and took pictures of it. He proceeded to print the pictures as a double exposure along with what his house looked like when he was growing up. It was really neat! He published a book about it called, "The House I Once Called Home." I didn't do anything that elaborate but I thought of him while I was there. For the heck of it I posted an example of Duane Michal's work so you can see what I'm talking about and then my pictures follow.

Dry Spell

So it's true, I've sort of been having a dry spell when it comes to my pictures recently but soon there should be an wave of pictures (hopefully). I've transitioned into my new classes for the new quarter- it's gonna be a rough one! News Photography is seriously going to be the death of me, I'll be constantly on the go. Blah. Oh well, It's a learning experience which is very important! Here's a picture that I just turned in for a class, it is certainly not my best work but it's the best I have going for me now! Haha!

New theme, new studio!

This quarter I'm pretty sure that one of my main focuses as far as a theme will be food photography. This means two things: I will be cooking and eating a lot, and my dining room table is now studio space. Check it out!

Engagement Pictures

These are some of my favorite pictures from my friend, Gina's, engagement shoot. I'll be shooting her wedding in July!
