Mexico! (with the 'x' as a 'h' sound)

This week my photo shoot was based on Mexican food! I made Gouda Chorizo Jalapeno Poppers, guacamole with homemade tortilla chips, and spice rubbed chicken tacos with BBQ onions and grilled poblano peppers. I've really wanted to have been using a charcoal grill by now but I haven't had a chance to get one =(. So since I was grill inside with no exhaust fan, I completely smoked out the house last night =). Anyway.... I hope to have some exciting new Ideas for next week, if I can find the motivation.

Oh and I'm posting a lot of pictures but keep in mind that I had originally selected 44 to post and I cut that number in half!

Artsy Fartsy

So I've been in this strange mood where I just want to shoot fine art. It's very strange because I usually am only attracted to commercial work. I went through the shoot that I did last night, and I'll post the color pictures later, but I'm gonna post some of the ones that I made black and white. I don't know what's up with me. I have two other ideas for fine art series in mind that I'm really excited about and I'm gonna try and have them done within the next couple weeks. Anyway, here's my strange fix for fine art.

My new food series

For this quarter, I'll be taking two back-two-back classes that are very similar. Therefore, I will be shooting one project for both classes. Different from last quarter when I was shooting a variety of dishes every week, I will only be shooting one a week and documenting the whole experience from shopping for the ingredients to preparing the food and finally the food plated up. I guess it's similar to Pioneer Woman style. I'll be spending a lot of time in the Strip District! Now, some of these pictures end up boring so I had to think of how I would make the pictures more interesting. I decided I would adjust the pictures with selective saturation to add an interesting appeal. I'm still getting the kinks worked out of this process but here's the first week's dish; grilled pork chops marinaded in a sweet and sour sauce and glazed carrots. Enjoy!

Studio Photography

So I'm finally in full swing at school. Here's my first picture assignment that I did for Studio Photography. This class is a continuation to the large format class that I took last quarter but we're focusing mainly on lighting. This was a picture that we had to make a gradient background (darker on top and lighter on the bottom). I may reshoot it with a lighter toned background so that I can get more contrast in the gradient. We'll see. I'll post the new and improved on if/when I do =). I'm a little ashamed to say though that I saw a picture before very similar to this. I don't know where or who but if you're reading this and it was you're idea, I'm sorry, please credit yourself in the comments, and hopefully you helped me get a good grade.
