Themes

Every week I am assigned to shoot four different themes, keeping the same themes throughout the quarter. I chose to shoot transportation, litter, liquid, and emergency. Here's some of what I turned in today!

Random Assignment Pictures

I am in four shooting classes this quarter (and algebra, ew) so I have accumulated a few miscellaneous images from random classes that I though were worthy of posting but yet not enough to have their own topic.

Photojournalism Portrait Assignment

I'm taking a photojournalism class and our most recent assignment was to take portraits of news-worthy people. I walked around my town of Dormont yesterday and took pictures and got some basic information from a few of the business owners who make Dormont fantastic. I stopped at Woven Rug Gallery, Hairgeometrics, Beyond Bedtime Books, and Dormont Fresh Market. For two of the locations I also took some pictures around the store and posted them, I liked them.

The Woven Rug Gallery is located on Potomac Avenue in Dormont and features hundreds upon hundreds of rugs from around the wold. At the shop, they sell, clean, and repair rugs. Ba has been working at the shop for 11 years.

Char opened up her store, Dormont Fresh Market, in August of 2010. She wanted to fill the need for Dormont's lack of a store to purchase household needs such as fresh produce, meat, and deli products. Her deli sells Weiss meats and she sells quality locally made breads.

For six years, Jamie Grassman has been running an online bookstore specializing in children's books. Nearly a year ago, after the owner of the former bookstore on Potomac retired, she fulfilled her dream of owning a used book store and bought the space. The former store had been there for 15-20 years. Grassman looks forward to the summer when she will be able to host events for children and adults.

Jennie Santorella, owner of Hairgeometrics, will satisfy all of your hair, manicure, and pedicure needs. Her business is a small personal store that has been able to build up a great reputation in the Pittsburgh area for the past 16 years.

mmmmMMMMmmmm- Eating Well!

I often take pictures of the meals that I eat and today I ate very (very) well! For lunch, while on a shoot, my friend Cat and I went to my favorite place to eat, a little Asian restaurant called Mekong, about a five minute walk from my apartment. The best part about this restaurant is the friendliness of the owner, an adorable little Vietnamese lady who cooks, and of the others serving there. They make you feel right at home! For dinner I made salmon with egg noodles cooked in a wonderful white wine sauce that I made for the first time. Absolutely delicious! Then to finish the night, at four in the morning, Tim and I made a Wal-Mart run to by cupcake papers and I made green cupcakes with purple icing! They look totally beautiful and were quite tasty! I know, you're jealous!

Art Photography

Here are a few photos that i came across from an assignment some time ago that I personally really liked. Enjoy =)

Analog Photography

I got some new toys in the mail! A few lenses, a new bag, and an old school film camera for my analog class. This camera is cool because it is 100% manual. It's brand new but it's the style of older models. I'll be shooting black and white film this quarter and developing it, I think it sounds exciting!!

Hydration

In my photojournalism class we were assigned a project and one of the options was to shoot pictures that represent hydration. I first traveled to the Strip District and stopped at 21st Street Coffee and took pictures of an intriguing brewing method (which it's name escapes me right now.) They were great in helping me out with these pictures!

My roommate and I went to our favorite Chinese restaurant down the road from our apartment and my camera was on me so I decided to snap a couple pictures of the hot tea we were sipping on while eating some crazy good sesame chicken. I love how warm these photos feel!

Finally, I made some delicious strawberry-bannana shaved ice. It was as delicious as it looks!
